After the success of the 2017 route in the Vanoise which included fewer days of full trekking and more day excursions with lighter packs, this year’s route had a similar plan, but with the day excursions interspersed with the trekking route rather than all at the end. The 4½ day trekking route mostly followed the first part of the Alta Via 4, with some sections of the Alta Via 3, from San Candido to the Faloria hut in the Sorapis Group above Cortina. The first excursion was from the Locatelli hut with an ascent of Crode Fiscalini, at 2677 m the highest point we reached. We then did two day excursions from our hotel in Misurina, and two more from our chalet in Cortina.
